I was having a conversation the other day and the topic of clutter came up, as I looked around at a few stacks of items I have been meaning to throw out, donate, or sell off. During the conversation I explained; at times we need to sit back and do a “spring cleaning” or inventory check spiritually, She was in such agreement when I said that and explained how she had done a bible study on that very same thing. (I love it when confirmation happens like this too) Sometimes in all our efforts to help others we get loaded down with their problems, and daily struggles, that we seem to be bearing the burdens with them. Now, I am not saying that feeling the struggles of others is a bad thing, however; we can not carry others problems, we can pray with them, for them, and encourage them.
Several months ago I felt that I was immersed in that very thing, see sometimes with or without acknowledging what they are doing, people will let their “dramas” or “spiritual battles” try to seep their way into your life as you are trying to show them love and kindness. Sadly, If that person is not as receptive to hearing about the Lord or diligently praying over it, they will continue to be negative, and that negative will start to rub off on you. Thankfully the Lord opened my eyes to this very thing and said it’s time to “Organize my clutter”! as silly as that sounds, I realized that I had not focused on myself as I had set out to do many times over, I was not as happy as I should have been. So with much prayer and effort I started “de-cluttering”. We as Christians need the encouragement of other like-minded Christians. We do not always have to agree on everything and of course we are all human and will make mistakes, but to own your mistakes, and be able to love and encourage one another goes a long way.
Shortly after I sat out on my de-cluttering journey, I felt an overwhelming sense of can-do-energy, I felt that I could actually pray for people without feeling so broken of myself. Being able to release your self of others loads and being able to support and encourage and know where to draw your boundaries is a wonderful feeling of Peace. God wants us to reach out to others and help, we can listen and advise without taking on the problems as though they were our very own. God wants us to guard our hearts so that nothing will be able to tear us down and destroy us. Spread his love, speak of his grace and mercy, always look for opportunities to glorify him. What are some ways you keep yourself or your home spiritually de-cluttered?
Be Blessed and Encourage one another!
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:6
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Colossians 3:16
